¶¶Òô´ó¹Ï Supports Bill to Stop Part B Drug Payment Cuts

¶¶Òô´ó¹Ï is on record  in support of legislation ( ) that holds physician reimbursement for Part B drugs harmless from drug price negotiation. The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) requires Medicare Part B payment for drugs and biologics subject to price negotiation to be set at 106% of the negotiated Maximum Fair Price (MFP) rather than 106% of Average Sales Price (ASP), a change that is to cost gastroenterologists $2.7 billion over 10 years. The bill directs CMS to reimburse physicians at 106% of ASP, while requiring manufacturers to repay the cost difference between MFP and ASP to the government, effectively taking providers out of the middle of the IRA’s drug price negotiation process.

About Gastrointestinal Endoscopy
Gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures allow the gastroenterologist to visually inspect the upper gastrointestinal tract (esophagus, stomach and duodenum) and the lower bowel (colon and rectum) through an endoscope, a thin, flexible device with a lighted end and a powerful lens system. Endoscopy has been a major advance in the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases. For example, the use of endoscopes allows the detection of ulcers, cancers, polyps and sites of internal bleeding. Through endoscopy, tissue samples (biopsies) may be obtained, areas of blockage can be opened and active bleeding can be stopped. Polyps in the colon can be removed, which has been shown to prevent colon cancer.
